The Process

Inspection and masking

Cortez checks the condition of each lens and grades the oxidation level. Surrounding paint and trim are masked off so nothing gets touched that should not be.

Wet sanding

Starting with a coarser grit and working progressively finer, the oxidised outer layer is sanded away. This is what removes the deep yellowing and heavy haze that polishing alone cannot fix.

Machine polishing

A dual-action polisher with a cutting compound removes all sanding marks and brings the lens back to a smooth, clear finish. Multiple passes are made until the lens is optically clean.

UV sealant application

A dedicated UV-resistant sealant is applied to both lenses. This is the step most DIY kits skip, and it is the main reason results do not last. The sealant bonds to the lens and shields it from the New Zealand sun.

Final check and clean-up

Both headlights are checked side by side in natural light. The front end is wiped down, masking is removed, and you get a chance to see the before and after difference yourself.
